Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week - Sandi

This week we’re celebrating our Veterinary Technicians as part of National Veterinary Technician Week. These are the highly skilled and trained veterinary nurses which perform treatments, take samples, and assist in surgery behind the scenes. While you may not see these team members in action, without them working behind the scenes we’d have a hard time keeping the place going! We’re going to feature each one of our three wonderful Veterinary Technicians this week. Please show them the love that they often miss out on being behind the scenes!

Today’s profile is about Sandi! Sandi has been with us for about a year and half now. That might now seem that long, but that means she’s been with us nearly half our existence!

Sandi began her working life in the military fixing Apache helicopters for the Army. Following her time in the military, Sandi earned her AS in Veterinary Technology from Brown Mackie College. She’s been in the veterinary field since. Due to her husband being transferred a few times for work, she is not only certified in Florida, but in other states and nationally. She has also become a Veterinary Technical Nutrition Counselor and is working on expanding her background in behavior.

Not only does Sandi perform every task she does with great pride, but she does so with an amazing attitude. Like everyone on the team, she treats every animal like it is her own; however, she also talks to every pet as if they are her own – with a special voice she uses just for animals. If you ever hear a unique voice through the exam room door speaking to your pet, that’s likely Sandi! This seems to relax the animals and makes treatments a much happier experience for all involved!

Sandi spends her spare time with her husband and two children, Alex and Corinne. Alex works here as a kenneler and is currently applying to colleges. Sandi enjoys sewing and has produced some of the beautiful items we raffle at different events! She also enjoys baking and has made her teammates guinea pigs for her new recipes. It is a hard job to be among the first to enjoy all of her delicious work!

Sandi has a dog of her own at home, Jake. He’s an older Labrador Retriever mix. He’s a sweetheart who occasionally accompanies mom to work for exams and treatments. He’s always excited about everything and loves “helping” Sandi at work!

Working with Sandi is amazing. Her upbeat attitude and outgoing personality can perk up even the worst days! She’s amazing at recognizing when a team mate needs assistance and jumps in to help – often before the team member knows they need the help! She proactively seeks out issues and figures out a way to fix them. Many issues are identified and solved before any one is even aware of them! Amazing – just like Sandi!
